Travelogue: Philadelphia
This fall, we enjoyed a long weekend in the “City of Brotherly Love” for #PugsTakePhilly. This was the dogs’ second time in Philly, and they loved it! It’s a quick trip from NYC, yet a totally different world. We found Philly to be a very dog-friendly city to visit, with loads of history and easy-to-navigate streets. Here’s a look into our short visit – we can’t wait to go back!
We arrived in Philly on Thursday night with enough time to check into our Airbnb, scope out the nearest Five Below, and hit up the neighborhood Wawa. We stayed on Chestnut Street, close to Rittenhouse Square. The area was great, with tree-lined streets and plenty of shops. We loved wandering around, checking out stoops decorated with pumpkins and bushels of autumn flowers.
The next three days were packed with #PugsTakePhilly activities, including an historical walking tour through Center City and a meet up at the Schuykill River dog park. Getting around Philly was easy. It’s a great walking city! The Center City layout is an easy grid format that spans 25 blocks, sandwiched between two rivers: the Schuylkill and the Delaware. Streets that run north/south are numbered, while those that run east/west have tree names, like Walnut or Pine. Many colorful “Walk! Philadelphia” directional signs can be found throughout the area, helping you find where to go.
We didn’t get a chance to ride SEPTA (Philly’s public transportation system) but we did see buses and subway entrances. We took a quick Uber at one point that only cost $8. Philly is manageable on foot or using public transport, so renting a car was unnecessary.
On our first trip, we walked along the Schuylkill River and checked out the shops in East Passyunk. We also saw the Liberty Bell. During this most recent trip, we visited Independence Hall, the first ever US Post Office, the Rocky Steps, and some local breweries. Phew!
We had such a lovely time in Philadelphia and definitely plan to return! We still need to sample some cheesesteaks, visit the Magic Garden (it’s dog-friendly!), and do more exploring.
Until next time!

Glad you enjoyed a visit to my hold hometown. It is a lovely place to walk. And small pets are welcome on public transit as long as they’re in a carrier.
Thanks! Can’t wait to go back.
After study your travel content I wanna visit Philadelphia with my litte pups. Can you telll me which most fabulous and friendly motel in Philadelphia?
Hi Ivana! I’d recommend staying in an Airbnb or in the Kimpton hotel (there are two in Philly). There’s also the Aloft hotel, which is new.
