Tips for visiting Hudson Valley Wineries

Make sure your visit is as fun as possible with these dog-friendly winery tips:

  • Get a designated driver – Now’s the time to butter up your sober friends. If you’re driving to the wineries, you’ll need a sober friend behind the wheel. Luckily, there’s still plenty to do at the wineries for those not consuming alcohol, from eating delicious foo, to enjoying the scenery and views, to games and live music.
  • Bring a leash – Dog-friendly wineries welcome well behaved dogs on a leash. Be sure to bring a harness and a leash, poop bags and a dog bowl to keep your pup hydrated.
  • Do a wine tour –Why visit one winery when you can visit five? Or more! Many of the best Hudson Valley wineries are in the same area. If you’re of the “go big or go home” mindset, consider doing the Shawangunk Wine Trail. You can get a Hudson Valley Wine Tasting Passport, which allows for one regular wine tasting at each of the 15 member wineries of the Shawangunk Wine Trail – and most of them are dog-friendly!
  • Double check before you go: These wineries were dog-friendly at the time of publishing, but policies change! Send them an e-mail or a quick call to ensure that your dog is welcome.

Baldwin Vineyards doesn’t have your typical winery feel. It’s got much more of a domestic vibe, like sipping wine in a friend’s backyard. They specialize in dessert wines, so be sure to bring your sweet tooth if you visit.

Besides wine, they offer port and beer.

Be sure to try their Spiced Apple wine, which comes canned in a mason jar with a stick of cinnamon in it. Delicious.
