What was your experience with pug adoption? We’d love to hear in the comments!

As a volunteer with a couple of pug rescues over the years, my advice is to get your adoption application in even before you see a pug you love. The rescues I’ve worked with all take time to review your application. There’s reference checks, vet checks and home visits, all of which take time. If you get your application in early and are approved, you’re *usually* closer to the top of the list for when the right pug comes in. If you wait, you may be in line with many other people for a particular pug. Sometimes a pug comes into rescue and may get dozens of applications. I’ve seen some rescues stop taking applications if a pug has “gone viral.” Getting your application in and approved well before you see a pug gives you a better shot.
That said, rescues do their best to match the adopter to the pug. In my experience, the pug’s needs come first, no matter how much you have fallen in love with a photo. If you don’t get a particular pug, it’s probably because another adopter was a better fit for that pug. But be patient and the right pug will find you!
This is great advice! Thanks for sharing. When a rescue allows you to apply in general, I totally agree that getting in your application is the most important thing. Some of the rescues listed will only allow you to apply for a specific pug, another thing to keep in mind, so getting in an app without a pug in mind won’t do. It all depends on the rescue! That’s why researching a rescue is so important. Thanks again for sharing!!
Hello, My Wife and I lost our Pug guess to old age (13 Years Old) about 3 months before Christmas. We are both retired and on a fixed income. I have seen Pugs from $600 to $3000.
We would love to adopt a Pug.
Thanks Very Much
Frank R Mathis
Hi Frank! Reach out to one of the pug rescues on this list that serves your area. Adoption fees are usually less than your budget, so as long as your application is approved, you should be all good!
Pug Rescue of Owasso, Oklahoma should also be on your list.
Just added them – thank you!
We’re looking for a Pug who needs a new home, not necessarily a puppy. Our Rocky left us at 14, we adopted him at age 3. Best guy ever. We live near Wenatchee and don’t want to travel far from home due to Covid. It’s pretty depressing to be without a Pug buddy.
Why isn’t The Pug Queen Redcue on your list? She’s located in Los Angeles, CA and has dozens of pugs ready to be adopted plus another hundred in a safe house in China, saved from the horrible meat market there. She’s working on bring those back here to the US to be adopted too.
Please add The Pug Queen in CA? She does a great deal of rescuing and has a foundation to support them! On FB and by google search.
pug alert!
a pug wanted, young, for an older person
lots of love to give
big yard
many grandkids nearby
Hello,
I have sent in an application for adoption to the Pug Queen. I sent her the donation fee, the video and everything she asked for .
She has never gotten back to me, I have reached out to her innumerable times for 2 months. No word! I am very disappointed, she has never answered my emails or my facebook. Be careful. I have had 5 pugs over the years and am an experienced pug owner. My 5th beloved pug passed November 21, 2020 and I am very sad not to have a pug now. I am searching, breeders, adoptions and rescues, so far nada! Will keep searching as I will always want a pug. Oh, the same goes for PRoNE. Never have heard back from them either. Don’t understand why.
lost our Scarlett (Fawn pug) and are looking to get another pug. We are fanatics. Looking for a female (preferably) any age up to 8. Live in Boston, will travel for the right pug 🙂
Hi! I suggest reaching out to the rescues that service Boston. There are many in your area, check out the list.

Hello. We live in Northern New Jersey. We are looking to adopt an older pug or a disabled pug. We will travel if we find a good match. Thank you.
I lost 2 older pugs this year. This is the first time in 50+ years I am without a dog. I have applied to the Ohio Pug Rescue, but haven’t heard a word since then (March). I am looking for a middle aged adult pug, female since I am a senior citizen. I have a fenced-in yard and would give her lots of love.
Hi Elaine, I recommend reaching out to Ohio Pug Rescue to learn the status of your application. Send them an e-mail. Best of luck!!
Sad to hear about “The Pug Queen” looks like she has so many pugs. We will be looking for a black female since we just lost our black male. I don’t where to begin. We live in Palm Desert, retired and want a pal for our Sammy who is 9 years old. Our pugs are very loved.
