Apple Picking

Nothing says fall like apple cider doughnuts, hot apple cider, and apple picking! Grab your pooch and head to Wright Farms, a five generation family run farm just shy of two hours from New York City. The 453 acre farm produces 100,000 bushels of apples annually, as well as cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines, berries, tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, and more. The farm welcomes friendly, leashed dogs in their apple orchards, so your pooch and their nose can help you sniff out the best of the best apples.

Dog-Friendly NYC Hiking

There’s no better exercise than a lovely hike through nature. Luckily, there are many trails and parks that allow dogs to join in on the fun. Let your pooch wander the forest while feasting on the sights and smells of the woods!

Within NYC: Inwood Hill Park
What’s the tee?: Inwood Hill Park is the only forest left on Manhattan Island. It has three trails, various rock formations, and a view of the Hudson River and the Palisades. It’s also home to tulip trees, oaks, and maples, as well as Manhattan’s last salt marsh. Be sure to check out Shorakkopoch Rock while there, the alleged place where the “selling” of Manhattan, between Peter Minuit and the Native Americans, took place.
Something to bark about: It’s only a subway ride away! Take the 1 train to 215th Street.

Outside of NYC: Hudson Highlands State Park
What’s the tee?: Located on the east side of the Hudson River, Hudson Highlands State Park has over 6,000 acres with panoramic views of the river and mountains. The park is home to many hiking trails, ranging from easy to challenging, including the popular Appalachian Trail, and Breakneck Ridge Trail, voted one of the top 10 day hikes in the United States by Newsweek.
Something to bark about: Get there by car or rail! Hop on the Metro-North Hudson Line or drive an hour and a half.

Strut Your Mutt

Strut Your Mutt is an annual event run by Best Friends Animal Society in 15 different cities. Participants raise money for a dog rescue of their choice, and then meet up for an epic dog walk together. It’s a great chance to meet other passionate dog lovers, exercise, and raise money for a great cause. Register online and get ready to strut your stuff!

Date: A weekend in October
