The Best Places to get Dog Products on a Budget

Dog products can be pricey, especially if you have multiple pups at home. Sometimes you need some extra, quality items that won’t put a dent in your wallet. Things like a back up bed, a new carseat cover, or some extra dog supplies.

If you’re on a budget, or you’re trying to save money, you can still get quality items for your pet, despite the cheaper cost. Shopping for your dog doesn’t always mean spending a fortune.

Here’s where to go in the US to find the pet goods that won’t break the bank.

HomeGoods

The Best Places to Get Dog Products on a Budget

HomeGoods is the place to go if you need random dog stuff or dog-related items.

Their rows of pet goods have everything from comfy beds, to dog shampoo, to large dog prints to decorate a home.

You’ll even find dog products here that you never even knew existed, like treat recipe books and travel kibble containers. Their items are quality, and won’t break the bank.

The bad news is there’s no online shopping for these prices – you’ll have to visit the store to take advantage of their sales.

Pro tip: don’t limit yourself to the pet aisle. You’ll find plenty of dog-related items in other sections, like dog statues in home decor, or dog pillows in homeware.

TJ Maxx

Dog toys at TJ Maxx

Owned by the same company as HomeGoods, TJ Maxx sells similar items at a comparable cost. Their offering is smaller, but it’s still quality.

Head here to find a random selection of dog supplies, often with just a few of each item available. You never know what you’ll find with each visit!

Unlike sister store Home Goods, TJ Maxx does sell stuff online! Their online shop carries pet goods, with free returns at your local store.

Five Below

Five Below

Five Below is an American retail chain that sells trendy items for $5 or less.

Their pet section is better in-store than online, but either way, both are worth checking out.

You can find beds, poop bags, toys, and even dog clothes all for under $5. It’s definitely a go-to store if you’re on a budget.

Pro tip: if you buy your pup a pool float, they’ll fill them up for you free of charge!

Amazon

The Best Places to Get Dog Products on a Budget

There’s nothing you can’t find on Amazon.

They sell millions of products from all over the world, and ship them right to your doorstep.

You can find any kind of pet product you’ll need, from a variety of brands and in a multitude of styles.

Check out their Amazon Basics brand for pet products. It’s incredibly affordable.

We use Amazon Prime, which comes with free 2-day shipping on most items, and other perks like exclusive deals, and Amazon Video.

Pro tip: always read reviews before purchasing. Amazon makes this easy, with a star rating system for each product, customer reviews, and photos.

Goodwill

A sign for a Goodwill store.

If you don’t mind buying second hand, or browsing, head to the local Goodwill store. They’re a great place to pick up extra dog toys and supplies.

Goodwill stores sell gently used items at a fraction of their retail cost.

Pro Tip: you can get cheap dog toys and/or stuffed animals (that don’t have small harmful additions) at Goodwill, that you won’t mind your dog tearing apart in under an hour. Also, browse their sports aisle for cheap tennis balls!

Target

A man stands with a Target shopping cart.

Everyone loves a Target store – they’re a one stop shop for pretty much all of your needs.

Their pet section is decent, with a good amount of variety.

Definitely check out their matching pajama sets, where you can get pj’s for the whole family, including your cat and dog.

Ikea

Ikea Pet Aisle

Ok so this photo makes my local Ikea’s pet section look pretty bad. Sparse aisles, random boxes, and a big mess, oh no!

But I took the photo at the end of the night and during COVID, so let’s give Ikea a break.

They usually have some great, basic items for pets, including leashes, beds, and bowls. The best part is, you’ll be able to match your dogs stuff to your furniture!

Buy Nothing Groups

My Pet Blogger Journey in 2021.

Buy Nothing groups are a way to give and receive, share, and lend with locals. The groups are divided by neighborhoods and located on Facebook.

They’re a great way to get rid of dog items you’re no longer using, or to get some dog items for yourself. The best part is, since other members are your neighbors, the items should be close by.

I’ve given and gotten some great items from my local Buy Nothing group, and met other members of my community. It’s a win/win!

  2. I just wanted to correct your statement about 5 Below only being on the East Coast. Just between Los Angeles County and Orange County alone, there are 16 stores in Southern California.
