A Complete List Of Dog Parks In Rio de Janeiro

Dog parks are great places to socialize and make new dog friends. They’re safe spaces where your dog is always welcome. In Rio, while there aren’t a ton of dog parks, there are still enough to make your visit somewhat easy. They tend to be near metro stops, or in popular parts of the city. And since National Parks in Brazil don’t allow dogs, dog parks are the next best thing.

You’ll also find a few unofficial dog parks – spaces that have been converted by a community of dog owners, even though they’re not city ordained.

Here is a complete list of dog parks in Rio de Janeiro, both official and unofficial.

Official Dog Parks

Official dog parks in the city are fenced in areas for dogs to play off-leash. They typically have benches to sit on, trees for shade, and poop bags to help you clean up. They’re most active in the early mornings and when the sun is going down, especially in the summers when it’s hot. Many also host events and get togethers. An official dog park is known as a ParCão: a play on the Portuguese word for park (parque) and dog (cão).
