A Complete List Of Animal Shelters In NYC

Want to adopt a dog in NYC? Great idea! Adopting a dog is incredibly gratifying. You’re saving a life, and making space for another pet to be saved.

So where should you go to adopt a dog in New York City?

The majority of animal rescues in New York work exclusively through foster homes, meaning they don’t have a single, physical location. Foster-based rescues rely on adoption events for you to meet their dogs.

But, there are also animal shelters where you can meet dogs in person to see if there’s a connection. These kinds of shelters are open throughout the week, and allow visitors.

Visiting an animal shelter has its perks: you can meet in person before committing and speak to adoption coordinators about what type of dog best fits your lifestyle. It’s a great way to find a good match for you. Plus, you’ll be saving both lives and money, since adopted dogs come vaccinated, spayed and with a host of other incentives.

So skip the pet store and head to one of these animal shelters in NYC.
