NYC is the capital of cuisine. You can get food from all over the world here, and often within the span of just a few blocks. No trip to the Big Apple is complete without checking out the grub scene. Luckily, you don’t always have to leave your dog behind. Here are 11 dog-friendly places to eat in NYC.

1. Pier i Cafe

Pier i Cafe is an outdoor cafe located on the Hudson River. Their diverse menu has everything from lobster rolls to fish tacos, and burgers with old bay fries. It’s a laid-back environment with walk-up ordering and plenty of shaded tables. Be sure to try the frosé or sangria. Pro tip: take a walk along the Hudson at sunset after your drinks and food. It’ll make for the perfect New York night.

2. City Vineyard

Located in the heart of NYC, City Vineyard offers wine from vineyards located all across the country. They have a wine garden covered in live grape vines, and a roof deck where you and your pup can order from the raw bar. Stop by on Monday evenings for their Monday Movie Night, screened outdoors.

3. Rosie’s

Rosie’s, a fun Mexican joint in the Lower East Side. You can sit outdoors and munch on some delicious tacos while you down a watermelon margarita. Keep the party going with pitchers of margaritas, or cold Mexican beer. Try the queso fundido or guacamole with chips. You won’t regret it.

4. Dog & Bone

Founded by a group of food and dog lovers in 2017, Dog & Bone is a restaurant and bar with a British feel to it. Their dog-friendly sidewalk cafe stretches along 25th street, just blocks away from Madison Square Park. Grab a delicious D&B burger, or try their vegan dog. Fun fact: the restaurant was originally inspired by an English Bulldog named Winston!

5. The Boat Basin Cafe

Located right on the Hudson river, the Boat Basin Cafe is a New York City staple. It’s dog-friendly in the covered area (in case it rains), and throughout their outdoor seating. With a great atmosphere and delicious food, it’s a win/win.The restaurant is open as early as late March and extends through the end of October. Pro tip: stay for sunset and enjoy the incredible view! Then take a walk through Riverside Park.

6. Song E Napule

Song E Napule gives you a taste of Naples in NYC, with wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta. Come with a empty belly, and order things like Insalata Caprese and Napoletana Pizza, and wash it down with some Panna Cotta and Sicilian red wed. There is a small outdoor area in front that welcomes dogs.

7. Shake Shack

Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, the O.G. location, is not to be missed. Order yourself a burger and fries, and get your pup a delicious pooch-ini. It’s a popular spot, so avoid a line by checking their Shack Cam to see how long you should expect to wait. After your meal, head to the dog park, just a few feet away.

8. The Mermaid Inn

If you like seafood and happy hour, the Mermaid Inn is the place for you. They have happy hour every day from 5pm – 7pm, with $1 oysters, delicious fish tacos, and drink specials. Plus, free chocolate mousse and a fortune telling fish come with the bill! Dogs are allowed on the front patio of both locations.

9. Luke’s Lobster

Get a hint of Maine in NYC at Luke’s Lobster. Choose from a lobster, shrimp, or crab roll, or try a sampler with all three. They also sell chowders, Cape Cod chips, and slaw. Be sure to visit a location with outdoor seating, so your pup can come too. Pro tip: don’t forget to ask for your free pickle.

10. The Barking Dog

This family-friendly and reasonably priced spot is a great option if you’re on the Upper East Side. It’s all in the name – The Barking Dog is super dog friendly, with great yappy hour deals. Don’t miss the doggy water fountain, a great place for your pup to get a cold drink.

They recently opened a second location in World Wide Plaza, located in Midtown. Check it out.

11. Añejo

What’s better than tapas and spicy margaritas Añejo is a fun Hell’s Kitchen joint with tacos, mezcal, and fresh guacamole. Try the short rib tacos and the flan. If you’re going for brunch, expect to wait for outdoor seating.
