10 Pug Movies You Have To Watch

There’s nothing better than a pug on your lap and another on the screen (because movies with pugs are the best movies!). Plus, real pug lovers know that one can never have enough pugs, either in real life or digitally. So grab some popcorn and check out one of these top 10 movies with pugs in them. Fur not included.

1. Patrick

British comedy Patrick tells the “tail” of Sarah, a young woman whose life is an utter mess. Things get even messier when her grandmother leaves her a very spoiled pug named Patrick. Patrick, as most pug lovers can guess, adds to the chaos, and slowly but surely turns her life around. Since Patrick the pug is one of the main characters, I give this pug film four paws up.

Patrick is a family-friendly movie, and good for all ages.

2. The Campaign

The Campaign is a comedic political satire starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. The comedians play two North Carolinians vying for a congressional seat. Zach Galifianakis’s character Marty Huggins owns two pugs in the film, named Mittens and Poundcake. There are fun pug jokes and plenty of laughs, and pugs are even featured in the movie’s promotional poster.

The Campaign is rated R, so best for adult humans and pugs – put the kids and puppies away.

3. Men in Black 1 & 2

If I hear one more person yell “Frank!” at me while I walk my pug down the street I’ll scream. Just kidding, I’ll just keep walking (it happens daily).

Frank, of course, is the well dressed, talking pug who stars in Men in Black 1 and 2, as well as the animated series and video game. Frank plays an extraterrestrial in disguise (a Remoolian), and has many fun scenes in both films.

“If you don’t like it you can kiss my furry little butt!”

Men in Black 1 & 2 are rated PG-13.

4. Valentino: The Last Emperor

Valentino is a famous and incredibly successful designer, but did you know that he is also a pug-obsessed pug dad?

This documentary tells the story of his life and career, and of course, includes his grumble of six pugs: Milton, Monty, Maude, Margot, Maggie, and Molly.

=The grumble live a posh life with Valentino by their side. Watch them board a private jet, crash a photo shoot, and run around with their own private butler (pug butler is my dream job!).

Rated PG-13.

5. The Nut Job 1 & 2

In The Nut Job, a film about an exiled squirrel who raids a nut store with friends, we meet Precious, a lady pug owned by a criminal. She’s friendly and has a bright red collar. In The Nut Job 2, Precious falls for a Boston Terrier. She’s voiced by the hilarious Maya Rudolph.

Both movies are rated PG, and family-friendly.

6. Pocahontas

What’s almost as cute as a real life pug? Animated pugs! In the classic animated Disney film Pocahontas we meet Percy, a posh pug from England. Percy starts off as an overly spoiled and pampered pug, with a carousel of dog biscuits and his own tub. He’s often found feuding with Meeko, a mischievous raccoon. By the end of the film, he’s had a change of heart and befriends Pocahontas and her forest creature buddies.

Percy also stars in the lesser known Pocahontas 2. He might be the first in the list of Disney movies with pugs.

Both films are rated PG and fun for the whole family.

7. The Secret Life of Pets

This computer animated comedy is about a beloved New York City dog named Max, whose life is turned upside down when his owners adopt an unruly mutt. Mel, a pug voiced by Bobby Moynihan, is one of Max’s friends in the neighborhood. He’s a hyperactive, dopey pug who loves food and hates squirrels. He’s also rather stumpy, with no neck.

The Secret Life of Pets is rated PG and good for the whole family.

8. Breakin’ All The Rules

Breakin’ All the Rules is about a love scorned man who publishes a break-up handbook for men. It stars Jamie Foxx as Quincy Watson, who is left with his ex-girlfriend’s pug Rufus. Rufus is seen doing comical things like drinking liquor, farting and peeing indoors.

It’s rated PG-13.

9. Kingsman: The Secret Service

This popular film is about a spy organization that recruits a scrappy street kid named Eggsy into a super competitive training program. When the recruits are made to pick a puppy, Eggsy chooses a pug, mistaking it for a bulldog. He names him Jack Bauer, or JB for short.

The movie-star pug who played JB went viral when he attended the movie sequel’s premiere party in a suit. Squeal!

The movie is rated R.

10. The Adventures of Milo & Otis

This classic film is about a kitten and pug puppy who stray from their home in Japan. Adventures ensue, with epic encounters and obstacles. This canine and feline best friend duo are insanely cute, making me think a pug protagonist is needed in every film (pugs in movies are the best, right?)

The Adventures of Milo and Otis is rated G.
